Beautiful hand-woven Fair Trade African Market Basket Celery is an all natural basket made from the local ‘elephant grass’. The grass grows wild and is harvested, dried into straw and then woven by the women of the village. The men tan the goat hides and work the leather onto the handles. They are made in the historic village of Bolgatanga, Ghana. The artisans are mainly farm families who supplement their income by making and selling baskets. The leather covered handles and the tight weave of the African Basket adds to it’s strength. The Fair Trade African Basket is perfect for the farmers market, towels for the beach, keeping throw blankets out of the way but accessible, or, for groceries.
The specialized weaving process makes these baskets strong and flexible. Wetting by placing basket in warm water will re-hydrate the fibers making the basket stronger and lengthening the life of it while also allowing you to reshape it.
