Artist Page – Joan Miro
Joan Miró i Ferrà was a Catalan painter, sculptor and ceramicist born in Barcelona. Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, a sandbox for the subconscious mind and a re-creation of the childlike. Miro, being of free mind and soul, famously declared an “assassination of painting” in favor of upsetting the visual elements of established painting.
He began drawing classes at the age of seven at a private school and later enrolled at the fine art academy at La Llotja and he had his first solo show in 1918 when he was 25, at the Dalmau Gallery, where his work was ridiculed and defaced. However this didn’t stop him from pursuing his passion.
He traveled abroad to Paris where he found his place among artist. It was here that he explored the exciting terrain of cubism and surrealism.
