This image is the “Nova Totivs Terrarvm Orbis” by Hendrik Hondius, in 1630. Henricus Hondis II or Hendrik Hondius the Younger was a Dutch engraver, cartographer, and publisher. His father founded a map making business, which he took over in 1612 after his father’s death. He published his first map in 1606, and the pictured version on this book box, was published in 1630, and was the first of real notability because it was an atlas. Since he owned the map making business, this atlas became more widely available, and it was first to show any sign of Australia.  Be sure to please the geography buff in the family, or perhaps the one with the most wanderlust, and give them this unique Book Box.
