Guatemalan folklore traces the origin of the worry doll back to Ixmucane, a Mayan princess who was presented with a worry doll by the sun god, Kinich Ahau, to ease the suffering of her people. For centuries, worry dolls have been given to troubled and mournful children. The children confide in the dolls , and then put them under their pillows at night. It is said that by the morning, all the child’s woes would be resolved by the worry doll.
