Skipping over the seaweed strewn across the long, open beach, bare feet mixing with frothy warm ocean water is conjured up by the colors of our extra large, Fair Trade African Basket, Seaweed.  Fill this basket with buckets, plastic shovels, beach towels and munchies before heading to the shore for some exploration and fun.  If you are not visiting the ocean the baskets are great for shoes, groceries, library book and of course, your local Farmers’ Market.

These beautiful hand-woven African Baskets are all natural, made from the local ‘elephant grass’ and natural dyes. The grass grows wild and is harvested, dried into straw and then woven by the women of the village. The men tan the goat hides and work the leather onto the handles.  Each basket is a hand-crafted individual with its own personality such as the lovely Seaweed Basket.

They are made in the historic village of Bolgatanga,  Ghana, Africa. The artisans are mainly farm families who supplement their income by making and selling baskets.
